In early June 2025, the courtyard at Boudha Mandala Hotel came alive with something new: the gentle pulse of music, the warmth of spontaneous connection, and the joy of shared moments.
On that first Saturday evening, we welcomed guests not to a concert, but to something more intimate: local and international friends gathering to sing Nepali, Western, and even Tibetan throat songs, not as professionals, but as people sharing what they love.
What began as one evening quickly became more. The atmosphere was too good to limit. By the second week, Friday nights were added. Guests came not for a show, but for “cool vibes”, easy conversation, simple drinks, soulful food, and music that invited you to lean in.
Even those who dropped by just to capture a photo for Instagram or TikTok often lingered, leaving with more than they expected, a sense of belonging.
I was deeply moved. As co-owner of the hotel, I watched a community begin to take root, gently, organically, in our courtyard. The kind of place where you might arrive as a stranger but leave feeling part of something.
The spirit reminded me of something from my home country of America. During the Prohibition era, when alcohol was banned, people gathered secretly in places called speakeasies. These hidden venues became sanctuaries for jazz music, creative cocktails, and a rare, radical inclusivity, where women, LGBTQ+ communities, and people of all colors could come together freely.
While our courtyard gatherings are not secret, they are slightly tucked away, just a short walk down the quiet alley from the kora. And like those historic spaces, ours is a place of welcome. We serve unfussy, flavorful food, pour local drinks, and open the mic to anyone with a song to share, or a heart open enough to listen.
So this is your invitation.
Come join us on Friday and Saturday nights in the courtyard of Boudha Mandala Hotel. Find music. Find conversation. Find community.
